Brian has been working on a farmhouse conversion of Corra Mill in Argyll. He chose to install electric underfloor heating as he has no access to mains gas and with the high level of insulation already in the property, electric underfloor heating would be a cheap option not only to install but to run.
We asked why he chose the Ribbon underfloor heating system and he replied:
Our floors are mostly 18mm solid oak and the broad electric ribbon spreads the heated floor area and gives a more rapid 'warm up'. Pre-finished, engineered strip oak flooring is loose-layed and has remained tight.
He found the installation procedure "very straight forward" and commented that they are finding underfloor heating very comfortable to live with.
Some people think that electric heating has high running costs so we asked Brian what his views were:
The project is insulated to above Scottish Building Standards. A whole house ventilation and heat recovery system has been installed. Space heating is not a major expense.
