Electric Underfloor Heating

Underfloor Heating Case Studies

Mr Howkins, North Lincolnshire

Key Components: Triple tube, thermal store cylinder

Mr Howkins in 2003-4 worked on a beautiful new build bungalow in North Lincolnshire using underfloor heating and the Rayotec Thermalstore Cylinder. He chose to install the Triple Tube underfloor heating system as he was requiring a floating floor system, a system that diminishes the use of screeds and allows you to lay wooden flooring or ply with carpet directly on top:

Having underfloor heating is more efficient than radiators and you have more freedom with furniture.

He found the system easy to install and when asked how he found living with underfloor heating he replied:

Slow to warm up due to high thermal capacity, but no problem, simply start the system 2 hours early and turn it off 2 hours early!

He found working with Rayotec "very helpful" and when asked if he had any other comments to make he responded with:

Gas and electricity is about £500 per annum. We have a 6000 litre rainwater store which is used to flush loos and wash clothes -annual water cost £250p.a. We have used special insulation including cavity walls and insulated plastic board on walls and ceilings. Regrettably we are selling up to move nearer shopping and medical facilities (I am 90 in October!).

Thank you Mr Howkins for your case study! I am glad you have enjoyed your energy saving home for at least a few years and we are sure the move to your new home will be a happy one!
