Screeded System
A minimum of 50mm high density floor insulation is tightly fitted on top of the site concrete, beam & block or pre-stressed slab. The tubing is clipped to the insulation as per the CAD layout using purpose made clips. After pressure testing the system, a 65-75mm sand and cement screed (4 to 1 ratio) is laid. Thinner screeds of 50mm containing fibre additives can also be used. Once the screed has dried, the flooring can be laid.
Suspended Timber Floor (mineral wool insulation)
Fibreglass or rockwool is wedged between the joists. The aluminium diffusion plates are installed stopping short of the tube bends. The tubing is fitted into the grooves of the plates and the system is pressure tested. The flooring can then be laid.
Suspended Timber Floor (with thermal mass)
This method for suspended floor is the most common method of installing the Rayomax pipe within a suspended floor. High density insulation is tightly fitted between the joists and rested on battens that are nailed to the joist sides. A gap of 25mm between the top of the insulation and the top of the joists should be left free. The Rayomax pipe is then clipped on top of the insulation as per the CAD layout. After pressure testing, the space above the insulation is filled with semi-dry screed.
Note: Please ensure that the insulation can withstand the weight of the tubing and screed. As precaution, a layer of plywood can be laid onto the battens and the high density insulation on top of this.
Floating Floor (tubing in diffusion plates within pre-tracked insulation)
Specially tracked polystyrene insulation is laid onto site concrete, beam and block, pre-stressed slabs or existing floor. The pre-formed aluminium plates are pressed into the insulation grooves stopping short of the end loops as indicated by the CAD drawing. Tubing is pressed into the grooves as shown in the CAD and the system is pressure tested.
Retrofit onto existing Floor
It is not always possible to remove the existing floor to install underfloor heating, so Rayotec may recommend a Retrofit technique which may raise the floor by a minimum height of 22mm before your new floor is laid.
22mm battens are nailed to the existing floor at 400 centres. 2L2 insulation is laid between the joists, with the ends of the joists being blocked to prevent airflow. The aluminium diffusion plates are then fixed to the battens. The 16mm Rayomax pipe can now be laid into the grooves of the plate.
